The cottage history can be directly linked to the smuggling days of the early 1800s when Saltburn was a remote spot and became notorious for smuggling. The nearby Smugglers Heritage Centre recreates this time.
Lovingly refurbished in 2007 to combine the best of old and new to create a comfortable base for exploring the North Yorkshire Heritage Coastline and North York Moors.
INSIDE THE COTTAGE.
For the comfort of all guests smoking is not permitted inside the cottage.
FACILITIES:
The front door leads into a dining kitchen with the original cast iron range, which is no longer in use. There is a window seat and table with four chairs.
On the other side of the room are cupboards, a sink, electric oven and induction hob with extractor, plus a fridge with freezer compartment, microwave and toaster.
NB: If you have a PACEMAKER you should not use an induction hob.
This leads through to the living room which has a wood burning/smokeless fuel stove which provides central heating to the radiators in every room and heats the water: fuel provided. There is also an electric immersion heater for water. Full instructions for use are provided.
Colour TV with FREEVIEW, video, DVD player, CD/radio. A selection of books, DVDs,videos and games plus local information. This is a sunny south facing room with a French door leading out to a cobbled seating area overlooking a mostly unused garden.
The garden belonging to the cottage is next to the one you overlook.

You have to open a door to the stairs. There is a stair gate at the top of the stairs.
On the first floor is a good sized double bedroom which has a cast iron fireplace (decoration only). There is double bed, wardrobe and drawers.
As this is an old cottage you have to walk through this room to get to the bathroom and twin bedroom. If you require complete privacy within your party it isn't the best place!
The bathroom has a new white suite comprising of a double ended roll top bath with shower over, toilet and sink.
NB: The bath sides are unusually high. If you have a mobility problem this may be an issue. Only 1 person has mentioned this in the past 3 years.

The twin bedroom has two 3ft wide beds. One of the beds is slightly shorter and can be stored under the other if only one person occupies this room. There is a curved rail with hangers for clothes and a bedside table with drawers.
There is a fenced off grassy garden with a summerhouse and terrace which enjoys a beach view and wonderful sunsets.
NB: The garden is offset to the cottage, not directly outside the door. This may be a concern if you need to let dogs out on their own. The garden gate is a few paces along the path from the French door. The garden in front of the cottage is NOT used other than to have the grass cut.
