The cottage is in the old part of Saltburn which is in the North East of England.
There are rockpools to explore near Huntcliff, or you can walk on the 8 miles of golden sand to Marske. There are opportunities to surf or ride horses on the beach.
The town of Satburn-by-the-sea just over a mile away exudes Victorian charm with it's impressive architecture, the oldest water balanced cliff lift in Britain, a pier and The Valley Gardens.
Saltburn is not the typical commercial seaside town and is a place which attracts a lot of artistic and creative people.
In 2007 Saltburn won a Silver award for the fourth year in a row in Britain in Bloom for the best coastal town category.
The town hosts an annual folk festival in August and held it's first comedy festival in 2007.
The cottage makes a good base for exploring The Yorkshire Heritage Coastline of Captain Cook Country. A short drive takes you to the North York Moors National Park, Heartbeat Country, the fishing villages of Whitby, Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood's Bay. Or you can take a day trip to York or Durham City. Beamish Open Air Museum and Teesdale are also within easy reach.
The stylish, but casual, Vista Mar concept bar opened in December 07. The Coastguard Cottages can be seen on the cliff in the background.
